Tobias Growler 5 String Reviews 5

The Tobias Growler 5 string electric bass has * Bolt-on neck * Heel-less neck joint * 3-piece asymmetrical maple neck with dual truss rods * Swamp ash body * 24-fret, double-octave range * Wenge fingerboard * Custom quad-coil Bartolini pickup * 18-volt, dual-channel stereo preamp * Black hardware * Massive ABM brass bridge * Hand-rubbed oil finish --(musiciansfriend.com) I have been playing bass for 7 years now, and I've had my Tobias for almost 4 year. I also play guitar, violin, oboe and piano so I have a lot of music background. I'm in a punk rock band called This Obsession, and I mainly listen to rock and punk.

I needed a new bass because the one I had was for beginners, and I wanted a new sound. I researched basses and I came across the Tobias in a magazine. I got it off of sweetwater.com, and paid about $1,600 for it.

I love the fact that the sound and tone sounds perfect throughout all the octaves. From the low B to the G, the tone is punchy and in your face. I also like how you can maneuver the sound a lot too. You can play basically any style from slap to punk on this, and it still sounds great. I've had it for 4 years now and I'm still in love with it.

The only 'bad' part about this is that it takes 9 volt batteries, which can be a pain to change right before a show.

I honestly have not broken a string in the 4 years that I've had this bass. I'm still using the original ones! The quality of everything is perfect, but the only thing is that you have to pay extra attention to when you clean it. Since it only has a swamp ash finish, there's nothing really there to protect it against cleaners. The best way to clean it is just with a cloth. The same thing goes for the neck. You have to be really careful with what you use. As for the construction, I have not had a problem with loose jacks or anything.

This bass is perfect if you want a good sound but don't want to pay 3000 dollars for it. It has a huge range of playability, and sound great even on the low B. It will last you forever, and is pretty much the coolest bass in the world.
